How Club Atwater is saving almost $3,000 a year through this small change
Project Overview:
Club Atwater, located in Montreal, is a Members Club offering amenities from fitness courts, a wellness center, dining, a café and a bar. In 2022, the Club decided to upgrade the lights in the two doubles squash courts to Arani LED panels, resulting in saving almost $3,000 a year!
Project Details:
Each of the 2 doubles squash courts originally had 32 1x4 fixtures (4x 4ft T8 tubes at 32W each). Once these were removed, a total of 20 Arani 1x4 LED panels (40W each) were installed per court. Apart from the evident visual upgrade shown in the image below, this change also offers a significantly longer life span for the lights. The predecessor to the Arani LED panels was estimated to last an average of 25,000 hours (roughly 8 years), however with the physical damage from the squash balls, the lights were functional for under a year.
The Arani LED panels are built to last significantly longer, estimated at 50,000 hours (roughly 16 years), with a robust build allowing them to withstand any hits and maintain their regular lifespan.

The lights in the courts before the renovation were dim and warm. After the Arani LED panels were installed, the space became significantly brighter with a more neutral tone. As mentioned in our blog “How lighting can make you choose an unhealthy diet”, Dipayam Biswas, PhD, University of South Florida explained: “We feel more alert in brighter rooms and therefore we tend to make more healthful, forward-thinking decisions”. The lighting in the areas we frequent, especially to perform physical activity & relieve stress, makes an impact on our physical and mental well-being.
By changing the lights in these two courts from T8 Tube lights to Arani LED panels, the Club has seen a significant difference. This simple change allowed for savings amounting to almost $3,000 a year.
