  1. Do your research- There are plenty of different trades out there and each one requires different training. Take the time to find something that interests you and look into the programs offered in your area.
  2. Find a mentor who will encourage your growth- Finding people with similar interests has never been easier. Find women in your field, in person or on social media, who have matured in the industry and are willing to guide you.
  3. Build your network- Attend shows and events that are prominent in your industry. Not only will you learn about the field, but you will be in a room full of people with similar interests. This is the perfect opportunity to find a group of likeminded people to build your network.
  4. Work hard- This applies both physically and mentally. Be prepared for the physical aspect that comes with trades professions. At the end of the day, as challenging as it may be, it is much more rewarding.
  5. Grow your communication skills- Speak up for yourself and communicate with those you’re working with. Not only is this an important asset for any job, but it is especially important in the trades as there is an added level of safety required.
  6. Be confident- Be sure of yourself and don't let anyone discourage you from reaching your goals!
